Meet Pastor Billy Shaw
Billy Shaw is a native of Charlotte, NC where he grew up in a Christian home. His parents took him to church “every time the doors were open.” His dad produced the audio for the radio, TV and tape ministry for the church, and his mother was the church pianist. Even with this church involvement, Pastor Shaw realized at an early age that, because of his sin, he could not get to heaven on his parents’ faith, but he would have to make it his own and to receive Christ as his personal Savior.
His parents led him to Christ when he was eight years old, and he was baptized there at Northside. Having studied Suzuki violin lessons from age two and piano lessons from age five, Pastor Shaw was preparing for a career in music when God called him to preach. One night while doing his devotions as a high school student, Pastor Shaw read 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season.” It was as if God took those words and pierced his heart with them. He realized this was what God wanted him to do with his life, and he surrendered to that call.
Shaw received his Bachelor’s degree in Bible / Pastoral Studies at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN and then his Master of Divinity degree at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He was ordained to the ministry in 2008 at First Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, where he also did a summer internship as the Singles Minister. He has pastored two SBC churches in NC – First Baptist Church of Stanley, NC and Grace Baptist Church of Fayetteville, NC. Between these pastorates, wanting to understand more about church finance, Pastor Shaw earned an MBA in Finance from Regent University in 2015.
He met his wife Ashley through her grandparents who were members of his first church. With an Elementary Education degree, Ashley’s background is as a first-grade teacher. They were married on July 7, 2012. They have one son named Liam who just recently turned 6 back in February. Ashley is now a stay-at-home mom and has homeschooled Liam in pre-K and kindergarten. She has always been a great asset to Pastor Shaw in his ministry building strong children’s and youth ministries in churches where they have served.
In 2007, Pastor Shaw travelled with a music team from Southeastern Seminary to Zimbabwe. He has also been on mission trips to New York City and Juana Dias, Puerto Rico. His wife Ashley has been on mission trips to Peru.
In 2023, Pastor Shaw published his first book in print called There Is Always Hope. He is currently writing another book entitled Christianity Head to Toe. From 2023 to 2024, he served on staff at The Journey Church in Boca Raton, FL as Pastor of Community and as part of the team of teaching pastors.
The Shaws now live in Leland, NC where Pastor Shaw is the Lead Pastor of Town Creek Baptist Church.
His life verse is Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” His personal mission statement is as follows: “I exist to use every available resource to bring glory to God by calling the lost to repentance and faith and discipling believers to become more like Jesus Christ.” In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, woodworking, working out, songwriting, and embarrassing himself on the golf course.
